Coronavirus Advice

16 March: All OMYFL fixtures suspended with immediate effect at matches

Just to let you know that, following the UK Government’s announcement this afternoon and a subsequent update from the FA afterwards, all OMYFL fixtures have been suspended with immediate effect. Please read the attached update for details of the FA update.

We will keep up-to-date with advice and information from all appropriate sources, including the UK Government, Public Health England and the FA and will keep clubs informed as appropriate. As it mentions in the update, we cannot speculate on what will happen with the leagues and cup competitions at this stage.

5 March: Handshaking suspended with immediate effect at matches

A number of National League System Leagues have contacted the FA to establish seeking guidance on the pre/post-match handshakes in order to control the spread of Coronavirus.

The FA is following Government advice which at the time of writing, does not offer any advice to say that we should not be shaking hands, but highlights and emphasises the need for good hand hygiene at all times.

Given that it is very soon after half-term when many people have been away, and as a temporary precaution the Oxford Mail Youth Football League has decided that handshakes at matches, trophy events and presentations will be suspended with immediate effect (5 March 2020) until further notice.

Clubs/teams can use another form of showing respect at the end of matches such as fist bumping or clapping or three cheers but please make sure each team confirms with their opposition and the referee before the match what will happen to avoid any misunderstandings. We would be grateful if clubs could make sure all teams are aware of this decision before the weekend.

The FA and OMYFL is actively monitoring and adopting Government advice, and as a matter of good practice would recommend that Clubs adopt the same approach.

The OMYFL will forward any relevant communications from the FA to clubs when it is received, but please keep up-to-date with the current information and advice via the UK Government, Public Health England and NHS websites including the following link HM Government coronavirus advice
